Markus World of Fire
Hello there. I have been working with the Incesion fire troupe of the Bay Area, California for the past year and have been eating fire for twice as long. However, I had found it either difficult or pricey to purchase items I wanted for fire routines. So I did what any other person with a machine shop and some funds available to them would do – I started to make my own. I soon found that others had the same difficulty and I began to make the items for people. Now, that things are beginning to get out of hand for me just to do word of mouth, I thought I’d put up a web page for everyone to look at. So below are a few of the items I have made and are on hand for me to take their photos.

Practice Poi – 18" welded chain with two screw lockdown link connectors create the long chain while a swivel clip, folded 9" of a leather strip, two grommets and a screw down link. Overall length from end of strap to the tennis ball is 27". A tennis ball with steel connectors, a washer inside with a nut superglued to the bolt make sure that the ball will not come free. They are sold in sets of 2. Overall cost is $25.

Poi Wicks – These are 2" by 2" by 1.75" cubes of wire reinforced kevlar wicking. Most poi have the end nuts just screwed tightly onto the poi. I actually work the end of the bolt around the nut with a hammer so that they won't come loose. They cost $35 a pair.
Starter Kit - this includes both the Practice Poi and a set of Fire Wicks. Cost is $50.

Fire Eating Torches – These torches are constructed from ¼" diameter aluminum rod with a 1.75" long torch head. The rod is threaded under the wicking to keep it from sliding, while the rest of the rod is smooth. Being aluminum, the rods won’t rust nor will they heat up quickly. The kevlar wicking does not have wire in it. The overall length of these torches is 18". The cost, including carrying case, is $25. If you wish only the torches, they can be purchased at $10 a piece.
New Fire Staff – The staves have been updated. They now have a 1 and 3/16" aluminum tube with a wooden core. This makes them lighter, less prone to burning and look good all around. Included is an approximate 18" fabric wrapped center for better grip. The ends are wrapped with 2" wide wire reinforced Kevlar. The cost for these staves are $40 for any length up to 8 feet or $60 for two staves both being 4' or less in length. Please specify length when ordering. An additional 2" of wicking can be added to the staves at a price of $12 per staff.

Raw Fire Fingers – As people have often asked for these, I began to make them. However, there has been a great deal of discussion as to a better way to secure them to people’s hands. I am currently working on many different designs for that reason. In the meantime, I have come up with a cost effective method of making them. I create 10 torches that have a 1.5" torch head and 2 feet of slightly curved 16 gauge wire. I sell these for $30 for 10. The buyer can then bend and mold the wire to whatever attachment style they wish. Note, this wire will resist bending as it is a thick gauge but is still bend if pressure is applied.

Finished Fire Fingers - After a few experiments, I have come up with a retension system that I like for the fire fingers. They use a leather/elastic combination with a rivet to keep the torch secured to the leather. They fit my fingers - with my middle finger having a ring size of between 10 and 11 - as well as my thumb. I cut down two of them so they secure to my pinky better. These I denote with a brass rivet instead of the silver. Because of the work involved with them, they cost $15 each or a pack of 5 for $50. They are roughly one foot in length from end to end, with a 1.5" wick head and a 2" long leather and elastic finger loop. The wire is the same as for the Raw Fire Fingers above. If you wish a different length of wire, just say so.

Fire Sword – Sorry that is it all black. It has been used quite a bit. The 34" sword is a hard wood practice sword that has been wrapped in aluminum tape (I have used it in over a dozen performances and although from time to time I can smell the wood, there has been no degradation of the piece in any way). Wire reinforced wicking extends along one edge from the tip to 4" above the crossguard. The wicking is secured via framing wire that wraps around the backside of the blade. The crossguard is made of aluminum to keep the heat at bay. Note! This is a very dangerous device to use as the flames can easily glide up the sword to your arm in any number of movements. I have lost the hair of my forearm quite a few times due to this piece. The cost of this piece is $75 – due to the quality of the parts used.
I make custom items as well - such as a fire chain whip (7 piece mini poi connected by chain links). I am also working on Fire Antennae, Fire Fans and other custom projects as well. Feel free to write me about any special orders - I'll tell you if it can be made or not and for what price. All inquiries can be made to mark@larping.net.
Thank you all for your time.
